¹¹ In the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, ^(A)the cloud lifted from over the tabernacle of the testimony, ¹² and the people of Israel ^(B)set out by stages from the ^(C)wilderness of Sinai. And the cloud settled down in the ^(D)wilderness of Paran. ¹³ They set out for the first time ^(E)at the command of the Lord by Moses. ¹⁴ The standard of the camp of the people of Judah set out ^(F)first by their companies, and over their company was ^(G)Nahshon the son of Amminadab. ¹⁵ And over the company of the tribe of the people of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar. ¹⁶ And over the company of the tribe of the people of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.

¹⁷ And when ^(H)the tabernacle was taken down, the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, ^(I)who carried the tabernacle, set out. ¹⁸ And ^(J)the standard of the camp of Reuben set out by their companies, and over their company was ^(K)Elizur the son of Shedeur. ¹⁹ And over the company of the tribe of the people of Simeon was ^(L)Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. ²⁰ And over the company of the tribe of the people of Gad was ^(M)Eliasaph the son of ^(N)Deuel.

²¹ Then the Kohathites set out, ^(O)carrying the holy things, and ^(P)the tabernacle was set up before their arrival.

I Will Be Their God; They Shall Be My People

¹⁵ The word of the Lord came to me: ^16 (A)“Son of man, ^(B)take a stick^[a] and write on it, ‘For ^(C)Judah, and ^(D)the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For ^(E)Joseph (the stick of ^(F)Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’ ¹⁷ And ^(G)join them one to another into one stick, that ^(H)they may become ^(I)one in your hand. ¹⁸ And when ^(J)your people say to you, ^(K)‘Will you not tell us what you mean by these?’ ¹⁹ say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am about to take ^(L)the stick of Joseph (that is in the hand of Ephraim) and the tribes of Israel associated with him. And I will join with it the ^(M)stick of Judah,^[b] and ^(N)make them one stick, ^(O)that they may be one in my hand. ²⁰ When the sticks on which you write are in your hand ^(P)before their eyes, ²¹ then say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, ^(Q)I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and ^(R)bring them to their own land. ²² And ^(S)I will make them one nation in the land, on ^(T)the mountains of Israel. And ^(U)one king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer ^(V)two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms. ^23 (W)They shall not ^(X)defile themselves anymore ^(Y)with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions. But ^(Z)I will save them from all the backslidings^[c] in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and ^(AA)they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

²⁴ “My servant ^(AB)David ^(AC)shall be king over them, and they shall all have ^(AD)one shepherd. ^(AE)They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes. ^25 (AF)They shall dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children shall dwell there ^(AG)forever, and David my servant shall be their prince ^(AH)forever. ^26 (AI)I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be ^(AJ)an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land^[d] and ^(AK)multiply them, and will ^(AL)set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. ^27 (AM)My dwelling place shall be with them, ^(AN)and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ²⁸ Then ^(AO)the nations will know that ^(AP)I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when ^(AQ)my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”

¹¹ As they heard these things, he proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because ^(A)they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. ¹² He said therefore, ^(B)“A nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. ¹³ Calling ^(C)ten of his servants,^[a] he gave them ten minas,^[b] and said to them, ‘Engage in business ^(D)until I come.’ ¹⁴ But ^(E)his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ ¹⁵ When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business. ¹⁶ The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.’ ¹⁷ And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant!^[c] Because you have been ^(F)faithful in a very little, ^(G)you shall have authority over ten cities.’

The Whole Armor of God

¹⁰ Finally, ^(A)be strong in the Lord and in ^(B)the strength of his might. ^11 (C)Put on ^(D)the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against ^(E)the schemes of the devil. ¹² For ^(F)we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against ^(G)the rulers, against the authorities, against ^(H)the cosmic powers over ^(I)this present darkness, against ^(J)the spiritual forces of evil ^(K)in the heavenly places. ¹³ Therefore ^(L)take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in ^(M)the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, ^(N)having fastened on the belt of truth, and ^(O)having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and, ^(P)as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. ¹⁶ In all circumstances take up ^(Q)the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all ^(R)the flaming darts of ^(S)the evil one; ¹⁷ and take ^(T)the helmet of salvation, and ^(U)the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, ¹⁸ praying ^(V)at all times ^(W)in the Spirit, ^(X)with all prayer and supplication. To that end, ^(Y)keep alert with all perseverance, making ^(Z)supplication for all the saints, ¹⁹ and ^(AA)also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth ^(AB)boldly to proclaim ^(AC)the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰ for which I ^(AD)am an ambassador ^(AE)in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
